Painters and Decorators in Fulham

The Peterborough Estate lion houses, Munster Village terraces and Parsons Green family homes.

Fulham is the northern edge of where we work regularly. The housing is dense, consistent and largely late Victorian, which makes it one of the easier areas to price accurately before we have seen the property.

The houses in Fulham

The Peterborough Estate houses — the ones with the stone lions on the gables — are the distinctive local stock: substantial red-brick terraces with good ceiling heights and heavy original joinery. Munster Village is smaller and tighter, two-storey terraces on a close grid. Around Parsons Green the houses get larger again and are usually full family homes rather than conversions, which means a whole-house redecoration rather than a room at a time. Across all of it, the characteristic Fulham job is a knocked-through ground floor with a rear extension, where the old and new plaster meet and never quite behave the same way.

Parking, permits and access

Hammersmith and Fulham borough, controlled on weekdays and noticeably busier than the Wandsworth zones further south. Trade permits are arranged by us. Munster Village streets are narrow enough that we will normally agree an unloading window with you instead of expecting to park outside. Match days affect access around the stadium, and we will avoid booking you in on one.

Conservation areas and consents

Large parts of Fulham are within conservation areas, including the Peterborough Estate, where the consistency of the frontages is specifically protected. Repainting an exterior a different colour can need consent. Interior decoration is unrestricted unless the property is listed.

Fulham houses repeat enough that we can often tell you, from the street name and the number of bedrooms, roughly where a whole-house redecoration will land. The survey is still needed to confirm it, but the figure rarely moves far.

Fulham questions

The extension and the original room take paint differently. Why?
Different plaster, different age, different suction. New skim absorbs more than hundred-year-old plaster, so the same paint can dry to a slightly different sheen either side of the join. Sealing the new work properly before the first coat is what evens it out.
Can you do a whole house in one go?
Yes, and it usually works out cheaper per room than doing it in stages — one set-up, one lot of access equipment, one delivery. A four-bedroom Fulham house throughout is typically two to three weeks.
Do you work on match days?
We would rather not, and we will schedule around the fixture list. Getting a van and materials near the ground on a match day is not worth anyone's time.
