Fulham

Front elevation and sash windows, Peterborough Estate

Burnt back to bare timber on the two worst sashes, spliced where the bottom rails had gone, then primed, undercoated and finished. The door went from tired black to a deep green.

Two of the six sashes had soft bottom rails. One took a resin repair; the other needed a section cut out and spliced in, which is a joinery job rather than a decorating one and was quoted separately so the owner could decide.

The rest was preparation. Burning off failed paint, knotting, priming bare timber, two undercoats and a finish. Painting over what was there would have taken three days instead of nine and failed inside two winters.
