A knocked-through ground floor where the cornice had been painted so many times the detail had gone soft. Stripped back at the mouldings, filled, and finished in a chalky green-grey with off-white trim.

The cornice was the job. A hundred and forty years of repainting had filled the mouldings until the run read as a smooth curve from the floor. Rather than strip the whole thing, we cut back the build-up on the leading edges and repainted, which brought most of the definition back for a fraction of the cost of full removal.
The crack above the door was the other item worth noting. It had been filled before and come back, which usually means movement rather than shrinkage. We raked it out, taped it and filled over — it has stayed shut.
