Whole-house interior, Dulwich Village
Three weeks in a Georgian house with shutters in every front room. Shutters are slow — every panel, every knuckle, by hand.
Drag the handle to compare · illustrative imagery
Shutters are the reason a Georgian house takes three weeks and a comparable Victorian one takes two. Each leaf folds into a box, each panel has a bead around it, and none of it can be sprayed or rolled — it is all brushwork, and the paint has to be thin enough that the shutters still close afterwards.
The owner had been told by another decorator that the shutters could simply be sprayed in situ. They can, once. Then they stick.
